Step-by-Step DLT Registration Guide for SMS Services in India

With the introduction of DLT registration in India, there is an established procedure that must be followed prior to the launch of any SMS campaign. Regardless of whether you are utilizing bulk SMS services for promotional purposes or transactional communications, it is important to complete the DLT registration process according to TRAI guidelines.

Selecting a DLT Platform

As the first step, the platform needs to be selected. There are telecom operators such as Airtel, Vodafone Idea, Jio, and BSNL that have their DLT platform on which you can create your account. It is suggested to opt for a single platform initially, but your data will be synchronized among various operators as per your requirement.

Registration of Your Business Entity

After selecting the platform, you need to register yourself by giving certain details related to your business, such as:

  • Name of your business entity
  • PAN number
  • GST number
  • Address
  • Signature of authorized person

Verification of Your Entity

Your information will be verified by the telecom operator. The entire process takes some time, depending upon the volume of data submitted. After verification, your entity ID will be generated.

Register Sender ID (Header)

Next comes registering the header or sender ID. The header refers to the name or number appearing as the sender of your SMS (XYZABC). Headers must be relevant to your company’s name and require approval from the operator.

Submission of SMS Templates

As per DLT guidelines, all content of SMS should be pre-approved. The required submission of templates for:

  • Transactional SMS (One-Time Passcodes & Alerts)
  • Service SMS
  • Promotional SMS
  • Include variables within brackets in your templates

Approving SMS Templates

Upon submission, your templates will be reviewed. Once approved, the templates can be used to send SMS campaigns. In case the templates get rejected, you will have to edit and then submit again.

Mapping with SMS Platform

Following this step is the mapping of DLT information, such as entity ID, header, and template ID, to your SMS platform, such as Celitix. This step helps in ensuring your SMS campaign is in sync with DLT norms.

Sending SMS Campaigns

Once done with all the above steps, you can now proceed to send SMS campaigns. It includes:

  • Using approved templates only
  • Send to users who have consented
  • Follow compliance guidelines

Conclusion

The registration of an organization for SMS services using the DLT may appear to be a challenging task at first, but by adhering to a systematic process, it can be accomplished easily. It is not only helpful in terms of legality but also increases efficiency and boosts customer confidence.
